Specialist MCA Engineering Oral Preparation & Marine Technical Facilitators
About TST Engineering Services
TST Engineering Services Ltd was created to provide marine engineers with structured, professional and technically focused support throughout their UK MCA Engineering Oral Examination preparation.
We specialise in MCA Engineering Oral Preparation aligned with the MIN 654 syllabus, supporting candidates working towards EOOW, Second Engineer, Chief Engineer and Electro-Technical Officer certification.
Our approach is built around one clear principle: candidates do not just need mock questions — they need understanding, structure, confidence and the ability to answer at the correct professional level.
TST delivers a focused preparation pathway designed specifically for marine engineering professionals, helping candidates develop their technical knowledge, oral exam technique and confidence before sitting their MCA oral examination.

TST Establishment
Built by Marine Engineers, for Marine Engineers
TST is led by experienced marine engineering officers with practical seagoing, operational, training and consultancy experience across the maritime sector.
Our background includes senior engineering roles, LNG fuel management, dry dock and new-build support, emergency power systems, safety management, fixed firefighting systems, machinery operation, technical training and engineering leadership.
This allows TST to deliver preparation that is not simply academic. Our training is based on the realities of shipboard engineering, operational decision-making, legislation, safety management and the expectations placed on certificated engineering officers.
We understand what candidates are working towards because we have operated in the environment they are preparing to lead.
TST's Consultants have facilitated courses at Europes most advanced simulation centres delivering technical courses holding IMO resolution certification in marine professional assessment and performance review.
IMO Model Course 6.09 — Training Course for Instructors IMO Model Course 6.09 is the recognised maritime instructor training model. It supports instructors involved in delivering training to seafarers and is linked to the expectations of STCW Regulation I/6, which requires those conducting seafarer training to be appropriately qualified. This course focuses on the planning, preparation and delivery of effective instruction. It includes the use of appropriate teaching methods, learning objectives, structured delivery and the ability to support different learner needs. For TST candidates, this matters because effective oral preparation is not just about asking questions. It requires clear explanation, structured teaching, correction of misunderstanding and the ability to break complex marine engineering topics into a logical learning pathway.
IMO Model Course 3.12 — Assessment, Examination and Certification of Seafarers IMO Model Course 3.12 focuses on the assessment, examination and certification of seafarers. It is designed for those involved in maritime education, training, assessment and certification processes. For TST, this supports the way we assess candidate readiness, identify knowledge gaps and provide structured feedback during oral preparation. The MCA oral examination is not only about knowing technical facts; it is about proving competence, judgement, safe decision-making and the ability to communicate at the correct professional level. TST applies this assessment-led approach by helping candidates understand where they currently are, what standard is expected, and what must be improved before examination.
IMO Model Course 6.10 — Train the Simulator Trainer and Assessor IMO Model Course 6.10 focuses on the training and assessment of seafarers through simulator-based learning. It covers the relevance of simulation in maritime training, simulator pedagogy, learning psychology, exercise design, briefing, assessment and debriefing. Although TST’s MCA oral preparation is not simply simulator training, the principles are highly relevant. The MCA oral examination places candidates under pressure and requires them to respond to realistic operational scenarios, machinery failures, emergencies, legislation questions and decision-making challenges. TST uses this scenario-led approach to help candidates practise how they think, speak and respond when questioned under oral examination conditions.

Why These Qualifications Matter to TST Candidates TST’s preparation model is built around professional maritime training principles, not informal revision or generic mock questioning. The combination of IMO Model Course 3.12, 6.09 and 6.10 supports three key areas of candidate development: Assessment — understanding the candidate’s current level and identifying gaps. Instruction — delivering technical knowledge clearly and progressively. Scenario-based development — challenging candidates through realistic oral examination-style questioning. This approach allows TST to provide structured MCA Engineering Oral Preparation aligned with the MIN 654 syllabus, supporting EOOW, ETO, Second Engineer and Chief Engineer candidates with a professional, methodical and candidate-focused training pathway.
